    EVVIE DRAKE STARTS OVER
by Linda Holmes When young, recently widowed Evvie Drake rents a room in her home to help with expenses, an unlikely series of events starts. The person who comes to rent the space is a depressed Major League baseball player who is in a slump and concerned his sport career is over. It is fun to watch a remarkable transformation that takes place in both of them. The story is a funny, upbeat look at how two “broken” people can help each other find meaning, hope, and happiness again.

PHIL STAMPER INTRODUCES NEW YA NOVEL

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8; 3 PM

PHIL STAMPER will Introduce his debut young adult novel, The Gravity of Us. In it, we meet Cal, who wants to be a journalist and he already has half a million followers on his FlashFame app, but his plans are derailed when his pilot father is selected for a NASA mission to Mars. Within days, Cal and his parents leave Brooklyn for Houston. The nation suddenly wants to know all about the new astronauts, while he and his parents are struggling with their roles as the “perfect American family.”

In the meantime Cal meets Leon, whose mother is another astronaut on the mission, and he finds himself falling head over heels for him. As their relationship grows, so does the frenzy surrounding the Mars mission, and when secrets are revealed about ulterior motives of the program, Cal must find a way to get to the truth without hurting the people who are most important to him.
