    EL PASO
    by Winston Groom

This is a book to settle in with on long winter nights. El Paso will transport you to the times of the 1916 Mexican Revolution and the vicious border wars set in the harsh deserts and mountains of northern Mexico.. A railroad tycoon, known at the Colonel, is pulled into the conflict when two and a half million dollars in "beef on the hoof" are raided from his ranch. Believing that Pancho Villa stole the cattle, he hopes to gather a group of men brave enough to hunt down Villa and bring him to justice. If you like your stories with an historical background and filled with heroes, villains, shootouts, rescues, and even a bullfight, this is the epic for you. Winston Groom has also written Forrest Gump.

    SMALL GREAT THINGS
    by Jodi Picoult

You know you're in for a compelling, "straight from the headlines" type of theme when you pick up one of Jodi's books. This one will be right at the top of the list. Her story takes on the challenging subjects of prejudice, race, justice, compassion, and privilege. We meet Ruth, a competent African-American labor & delivery nurse, who is caring for a newborn baby when she is told by her superiors that the baby's parents, who are white supremacists, demand that she not touch their baby. When the baby goes into cardiac arrest, and Ruth is the only one in the nursery, she is faced with the dilemma of following orders or intervening. It's a page turner from then on!

MARSHA THERESE DANZIG DEBUTS HER MEMOIR

TUESDAY, MARCH 28; 7 PM

MARSHA THERESE DANZIG will introduce her memoir, From the Roots: The True Story of How I Beat Death and Learned to Live. Hers is quite a story…actually a triumph! As a result of surviving childhood bone cancer twice, Marsha endured long-term side effects, including the amputation of her lower left leg, the loss of her bladder and kidneys, congestive heart failure, a kidney transplant, and scars galore. A rebel to the core, her defiance in the face of disease, doctors, establishment, and anyone who would steal her joy or life force, offers moments of profound depth and humor. There is no pity in her words, but rather they are an encouragement to people to live with an abundantly hopeful spirit that infuses life with purpose, appreciation, and contentment. Marsha Therese Danzig, MEd Harvard, is an author, speaker, healer, yoga therapist, and founder of Yoga for Amputees. She lives in Dayton, Ohio.
